The blocky world of Minecraft is full of challenges and surprises. Out of the many interesting game mechanics, zombie siege might be the most interesting one. This event occurs in villages under specific conditions and can pose a threat to villagers and the safety of the area.

Here’s everything you need to understand about how a zombie siege works and how to prevent a happy village from turning into a zombified town.

A zombie in Minecraft siege occurs during the night in villages. It is a unique event in which a large number of zombies spawn with the goal of attacking the villagers. Unlike regular mob spawns, zombie sieges ignore the light levels in a village.

This means that even if a village is well-lit to prevent regular hostile mobs from appearing, a siege can still occur. The zombies aim to break into houses and attack the villagers, often turning them if the village is not properly defended.

The occurrence of a zombie siege is tied to several conditions:

  • First, it only happens during the nighttime when the village is dark.
  • Secondly, the village must meet certain size requirements. There must be at least twenty beds in the town, and at least ten villagers must be present.

These criteria ensure that only established and larger villages are subject to zombie sieges. The difficulty setting of the game also influences sieges. On normal or hard difficulty, sieges can occur, but they do not happen on Easy difficulty.

When a zombie siege begins, zombies spawn within the boundaries of the village. However, they will not spawn closer than ten blocks to you, even if you are nearby. This ensures that the siege takes place primarily within the village, targeting the structures and all the villagers.

Once spawned, the zombies move toward the houses, attempting to break down doors and reach the villagers. Villagers, in turn, try to flee or hide, but their survival depends on the defenses that you set up.

How to protect a village

To protect a village in Minecraft from a zombie siege, you can take several steps. Building walls or fences around the village is an effective way to prevent zombies from entering.

It is also important to secure houses with strong doors or blocks that zombies cannot break. While lighting up the village does not stop a siege, it prevents other hostile mobs from spawning, making the situation easier to manage.

Iron golems are also very effective in these extremely challenging situations. Do note that this is not an end-game solution, and it only helps in clearing out some zombies.

Zombie sieges add an extra layer of challenge to Minecraft, especially for players who enjoy village-building. They test your ability to protect and maintain a thriving village under threat.
