A Minecraft Movie seems have to taken inspiration from a popular YouTube series

Most Minecraft players active during 2016-17 will have heard of YouTuber and streamer, CaptainSparklez. In case you need a trip down memory lane, he's the same person who made the viral parody of Usher's DJ Got Us Falling in Love Again:

CaptainSparklez is known for his extensive Minecraft series where he recreates popular songs and pop-culture references themed around the game. With the release of the A Minecraft Movie trailer, one scene stood out for a special reason.

The flying ghasts with piglins riding them like a hot-air balloon are strikingly similar to a viral scene from one of CaptainSparklez's most popular Fallen Kingdom series:

In the Dragonhearted music video from the Fallen Kingdom series, piglins are riding armored ghasts and shooting fireballs at the players. Similar to the A Minecraft Movie trailer, the ghasts and piglins are the antagonists attacking the protagonist and his gang.

Even CaptainSparklez, the creator of the series seemed to subtly hint at the uncanny similarity of the mobs to his video series from seven years ago.

At 3:10 he goes on to state there might be a subtle influence but he is not entirely sure. He says:

"This looks a little bit similar...possibly to uh...something. Not exactly but similar...maybe. I mean, in that instance, they weren't dangling from the ghast, they were riding the ghast."

He seemed pleasantly surprised at the striking similarity to his viral Dragonhearted video released in 2016, which has raked in over 43 million views. Speaking about the similarity, he goes on to state:

"It's a throwback to something. I don't know...did the idea come from there? Be pretty cool but no way to know for sure."

The community and fans of the popular YouTuber pointed out the similarity to the mob from the Dragonhearted music video, with some of them taking subtle digs at the similarity.

That said, there is no official confirmation from the team of A Minecraft Movie as to whether the ghast-riding piglins are inspired by the viral video or just a happy coincidence with a striking similarity.

A Minecraft Movie starring Jack Black, Jason Momoa, Emma Myers, and more is set to hit the big screen globally on April 4, 2025. The loyal community of this bestselling sandbox awaits the recreation of their popular universe in a new and unique way.
