A recent Minecraft leak hinted that Mojang might end up releasing a mob that was scrapped in the idea stage. Although Mojang has been consistent in bringing new features to the sandbox game for more than 15 years, not everything they plan makes it into the updates. However, if the leak is to be believed, one such canceled feature might see the light of day in the near future.

This article will discuss the Minecraft leak about the scrapped mob that could be added to future updates.

Minecraft leaks hint toward a scrapped mob being reintroduced for a future update

Mojang has been completely silent ever since The Garden Awakens drop went live. This was new for fans since they were used to Minecraft developers being quite open about what one could expect from the next update.

In the meantime, popular Minecraft YouTuber, Wattles, released a video about how there was a new leak about a scrapped mob idea that Mojang had discussed back in 2021. The scrapped mob in question was the Firefly.

Fireflies were revealed back in Minecraft Live 2021 for the upcoming 1.19 Wild Update. However, they were never officially added to the game, even for the Snapshot to Beta versions.

Fast forward to 2024 — Wattles mentioned that they received information from an anonymous leaker that Fireflies could return to Minecraft in a future update.

In the video, he explained that the initial leak occurred on a Discord server which he was not a part of. He even showed a message from the anonymous leaker that said:

"Just saw phoenix's new video. It's abysmal what passes for a leak nowadays. Here's a better one for the spring drop :) 🟨⬛"

Wattles was quick to decipher the message and speculated that the leaker could be hinting at fireflies returning to Minecraft with a future update. The leaker also mentioned 'spring drop' which can be a code name for the upcoming game drop.

Of course, it is worth mentioning that Mojang has not announced or even mentioned the Firefly's return to Minecraft.

What were fireflies in Minecraft?

For those unaware, fireflies were a proposed mob for the 1.19 Wild Update. At Mojang's live event in 2021, they were showcased in a short clip, flying around the Swamp biome at night. Initially, they were going to be an ambient mob that frogs — another new mob — would eat.

However, the community soon discussed how fireflies were poisonous to some species of frogs, following which Mojang decided to scrap the mob entirely.
