New Minecraft mobs lack the charm and purpose found in old favorites

Mojang Studios has added all kinds of new mobs to Minecraft recently. Ever since the 1.16 Nether update, the developers have worked hard to add mobs like piglin, strider, goat, warden, allay, sniffer, bogged, breeze, etc. However, the more recent ones have not been as useful and popular as the old ones. They lack the charm and have failed to excite everyone in the player base.

In this article, we will discuss why new mobs are not as exciting as old ones.

How new Minecraft mobs can't compete with old entities in terms of charm and use

New mobs are difficult to find

In almost every recent update, Mojang Studios has added at least one mob to the game. In the 1.17 update, they added goats, axolotls, and glow squids. The 1.19 update introduced added allays, frogs, and the warden. In the 1.20 update, they added camels and sniffers. Finally, the latest 1.20.5 and 1.21 updates witnessed the arrival of armadillos, breeze, and bogged.

While a handful of these mobs are useful and popular in the community, most are not. One of the primary reasons why they are not attractive is because they are hard to find.

It is worth mentioning that when players explore a world and load several chunks, new features that get added with new updates will never feature in these existing chunks. Hence, if a veteran player explores an old world, they will have to travel far and wide to even find chunks that will spawn new mobs from the update.

On top of that, some mobs like sniffer, allay, axolotls, goats, etc., are rare and difficult to find. The warden is a type of mob particularly designed so that players avoid it rather than find it in the deep dark biome.

In contrast, several old mobs are commonly found in almost all biomes. Even though some old ones are rare, players are always determined to find them since they serve a specific purpose or have a great use in Minecraft.

Features offered by new mobs are not the most useful

Mojang Studios packs every mob in Minecraft with unique features and behaviors toward other mobs and players. While new mobs have decent features, they are not as useful as some old creatures.

For example, sniffers are extremely hard to find but can only be used to dig up special plants that serve no particular purpose. Allays can help players pick up items from the ground, but they are not used by many in the community. Goats are rare to find in the mountains and their horns do not have any specific purpose apart from sounding unique.

Even the warden, which has some of the most unique mechanics and is one of the strongest in Minecraft, does not drop anything of value to make players feel rewarded after defeating it.

The new bogged skeleton variant was released in the latest 1.21 update. However, the mob does not serve any major purpose apart from being a regular hostile mob variant.

Old mobs, on the other hand, have gradually become an integral part of how players progress forward and flourish in Minecraft. Farm animals like cows, pigs, and sheep are extremely important to survive, while enderman, creepers, blaze, and more drop valuable items that help players massively.

Not every new Minecraft mob is underwhelming

The points above might make you feel like every new mob is useless, but that is not the case. Several new creatures in Minecraft have great use that will excite players to find and interact with them.

For example, an armadillo that arrived with 1.20.6 will drop scutes when players use a brush on them. These scutes can be used to craft wolf armor, which many players have been craving for quite a long time.

The new breeze mob released with the 1.21 update is also quite interesting to fight against. While the mob will easily go down with overpowered weapons, it will drop breeze rods, which can be used to craft wind charges and the new weapon, mace. Almost every player who plays this update will want to try the mace and the fun projectile item.

The axolotls released with the 1.17 update are some of the cutest and most useful mobs especially when players head underwater to fight certain mobs. They are also considered great pets.
