Mojang Studios recently released a new Minecraft snapshot 24w33a in which they added a new Reduce FPS feature. Like most titles, Minecraft also has an FPS limiter option that allows players to either lock FPS or keep it unlimited. However, when players take a break or leave the computer for a while, the game continues to consume an equal amount of resources.
Hence, Mojang Studios added a new feature that reduces Minecraft's FPS in certain circumstances.

It is worth mentioning that the Reduce FPS feature is currently available only in snapshot and has not yet been officially released.
Hence, players must first open the official game launcher and select the latest snapshot option from the version menu. The version to be loaded into is 24w33a.
Once the snapshot is selected, the game can be opened. From the main menu, players must head into options and then video settings where the Reduce FPS feature is available under the Frame Rate option.
The reduce FPS feature has two settings:
- reduce FPS while AFK
- reduce FPS while minimized
Reduce FPS while AFK
In Minecraft, several players can leave their game open and get off the desk for a break. The game can even run the entire night, particularly for AFK farms. During these conditions, the game previously kept consuming all the resources like RAM, CPU usage, and GPU usage.
With the latest reduce FPS feature, however, the game will automatically lower the framerate to save a device's resources. If no input is detected from a player for one minute, the game will reduce the FPS to 30. After nine minutes, the game will further go into a resource-saving mode and reduce FPS to 10.
Reduce FPS while Minecraft is minimized
The other option for the reduce FPS feature is when the game is minimized. Since Minecraft is not particularly resource-intensive to begin with, players might just minimize the game and pick it up again after a break.
In this option, the game will automatically detect when the game is minimized and immediately go down to 10 FPS. This allows players to perform other intensive tasks on their computer while the game is running in power-saving mode.
