Mojang recently released the Minecraft snapshot 25w02a, in which it introduced various new features coming to the upcoming game drop. While these were welcomed by most players, some were concerned regarding a few smaller changes that the snapshot brought. One of the smaller yet game-changing changes was the removal of diagonal sneaking speed that helped players create bridges a lot faster.
Though Mojang considered it a bug, many players labeled it as a great feature since they used it over the years in various custom game modes. Here is everything to know about the movement bug that was fixed and how it affected the gameplay.

Over the years, Minecraft has become the base for many custom game modes like parkour, bedwars, skywars, and more. In most of these games, players have gradually found a way to bridge quickly to get out of a dangerous situation. They found out that if they hold the sneak button, and then start moving diagonally to place blocks, they can do so much faster than moving in a straight line.
This simply means that the movement speed while sneaking is faster if players diagonally move their character, holding down two directional buttons.
Ever since this technique was found, gamers started practicing it; over the years, they perfected it. They used it to bridge quickly and also perform certain jumps in parkour runs. Players also paired it with leaving the crouch key from time to time, to further move faster while bridging.
Hence, the extra speed while moving diagonally while crouching was considered meta in Minecraft, even though it is considered a bug by Mojang.
The bug fix and its consequences
On April 2024, a bug report MC-271065 was filed mentioning the diagonal movement speed bug. Hence, Mojang fixed the issue in its latest Minecraft snapshot 25w02a.
Soon after the snapshot was released, a few players started noticing the movement change and discussed it on social media platforms. They mentioned that the "45s", which in Minecraft terms meant the diagonal sneak movement technique, was removed in the latest snapshot. The nickname came after players discovered that they could bridge a lot faster by standing at a 45-degree angle and then moving diagonally.
Many were unimpressed with the change since it will massively nerf the parkour runners and bedwars players who frequently used it. Since the developers have patched the bug, it will be reflected in the next official game drop.
