Minecraft reveals two new pig variants for the next update

Minecraft just released the Snapshot 25w02a, and among a host of new features like falling leaves and wildflowers, one addition stands out from the rest — new variants of pigs. The popular animal and food source has received new variants as part of the update, making it one of the oldest mobs in the game to receive a facelift.

Minecraft announced its first Snapshot of the year, and amid the host of features and items, the developers finally added new variants of the pig, one of the oldest mobs in the game. As part of the update, pigs will now have two new variants — cold and hot. This will essentially give players three versions of the mob to enjoy in-game.

Apart from the regular temperate pig, the cold and hot pigs can be found in specific locations in the game. The cold variant will spawn in cold biomes such as taiga, snowy taiga, windswept hills, and more. On the other hand, the warm pig can be located in warmer areas such as the savanna, jungles, badlands, and more.

The variant of the pig is determined by the biome where it spawns, with the default (temperate) pig spawning where the cold and warm variants aren't available. Additionally, when bred by players, the variant of the baby pig won't be chosen by the current biome and will instead be randomly selected from one of the parents' types.

These new variants of the pig add to the ever-expanding list of mob and their types, enhancing the diversity of the game and adding newer experiences for players.
