Minecraft is going through an exciting time and it is perhaps the most happening time for the game. The game got the Tricky Trials update, announced an upcoming animated series on Netflix, and finally, we got to see the first teaser trailer for the much-anticipated Minecraft movie scheduled to come next year. But just as people thought the days of announcements were gone, Mojang Studios dropped something big.
Minecraft announced some major changes using the game's social channels that would influence the future of the game. But out of the four announcements, the one that got perhaps the most attention was the cancellation of Mob Vote. For those who are unaware, Mob Vote was an event that let players vote for the mob they wanted in the game.
Reacting to the cancellation, X user LeafsMatrix commented on the announcement post:

“NO MORE MOB VOTE, WE WON!! Now tell us the next update will bring all the mobs & biome updates that missed their chance because of the votes.”
There is a reason why many players echoed the same sentiment. For years, players disliked the fact that out of the three choices of mobs, oftentimes the most useful one would not get selected. Since mobs were added based on votes, a lot of unimportant factors such as looks, appeal, etc. overpowered functionality.
This is why many players are happy that Mob Vote has finally been scrapped. Fans of the game would prefer frequent additions of new mobs that make the game more immersive and fleshed out rather than getting just one or two mobs every year.
User JpegUno said that while Mob Vote has been removed, the developers are too lazy to add more mobs and biomes frequently. u/LeafsMatrix said that since they got rid of the Mob Vote, it shows that they might be listening to the community and make the game move in the right direction.
User magicrat_larry had a very interesting take on this decision. They said that shifting to frequent and smaller updates would be more manageable and add features and items that the community will like more than what gets added with Mob Vote. They said they are happy that Mojang Studios is going back to basics and making the game evolve in the right direction.
Minecraft 1.22 update
This decision leads to an interesting question about the upcoming major update for version Minecraft 1.22. Since the developers have decided to move towards smaller updates, what kind of things can be expected to be added in the next major version remains to be seen.
Perhaps instead of one major update, Mojang Studios should start adding features all around the year while improving already present features of the game.
