It's no secret that Minecraft is chock full of different mobs, from passive and neutral to hostile varieties. While the hostile mobs are the most interesting of these three major categories, there's an additional type of mob that might be more interesting and is a hidden subcategory of mob. Here are the 10 different tameable mobs. However, with so many mobs, it can be hard to know where to start.

Everything players need to know about how the game's tameable mobs stack up against each other can be found detailed below, along with a tier list of these mobs.

Note that there are no truly D or F-tier tameable Minecraft mobs. Each of these animals fulfills some purpose, even if that use might be niche or exclusive to the early game. These two tiers are better suited for features that are bland, lifeless, and downright bad, respectively.

Additionally, mobs were primarily judged based on their Minecraft survival utility, though other factors, such as rarity and aesthetics, were also taken into account. Tiers are also unsorted, meaning all mobs that share a tier are roughly equivalent.

S tier tameable mobs

The first S tier mob to discuss is the camel. These animals can be ridden by up to two players and are so tall that many melee mobs, such as zombies, vindicators, hoglins, and piglins, cannot reach riders, making them immune to attacks. It's this incredible utility that lands them in this tier.

The next mob in this category is Minecraft's wolves. These are the original companions and weren't that useful for many years. They tended to be too frail to survive prolonged adventures, but the Armored Paws update changed that with wolf armor.

Llamas and trader llamas are essentially the same mob. Trader llamas just don't spawn anywhere other than with a wandering trader. These neutral mobs will spit at untamed wolves and all zombie variants, making them useful for clearing out undead hordes.

The first A tier mob is the adorable cat. These mobs are found in villages and witch-huts. If given raw fish, these felines might just make friends with players. These mobs will repel both creepers and phantoms, providing a bubble of safety to hide within.

The other A tier mob is the Minecraft skeleton horse. This frightening equestrian beast can spawn rarely within thunderstorms and, if approached, will spawn four skeleton horse archers. If players can kill the riders while leaving the horses, they can be tamed. What makes them better than regular horses is that they can be ridden underwater, making them useful for crossing large oceans.

B tier tameable mobs

The first B tier mob is the regular horse. These are a classic tameable mob, having been added back in Minecraft update 1.6.1. They can be given horse armor to remain safe from wandering hostile mobs and are incredible early methods of transit, moving up to 14.23 blocks per second.

Parrots are the other mob that takes up residence within B tier. Parrots are found within jungles and can be tamed by giving them seeds. Tamed parrots can be placed on their owner's shoulders and carried around.

While this is good, what lands them in B tier is their ability to mimic the sounds of nearby hostile mobs. This allows them to act as an early warning system for players, making them great Minecraft mobs to have in a base.

C tier tameable mobs

Donkeys and mules rank in the C tier together as they are both less useful variants of horses. Both of these mobs can be equipped with chests, making them decent ways to transport items in the early game, which keeps them out of D tier. However, they're guaranteed to be incredibly slow, making them feel less convenient to use than other methods of transportation.

Technically, mules could be considered worse, as they are unable to breed, but this distinction will mostly not matter and will rarely come up in a survival playthrough.
