10 rarest music discs in Minecraft

Rather than adding a way for players to skip songs or change Minecraft's background music, Mojang instead opted to add the jukebox to play some of the more exciting soundtrack songs. This means players have to hunt down items, known as music discs, to hear these tracks. However, some of these music discs can be extremely hard to get.

The 10 rarest music discs in the game are detailed below, along with where to find them, the chance to get them, and anything else players should know about the disc.

The 10 rarest music discs in Minecraft

10) Mellohi and Wait

Chance to drop: 18.9%

"Mellohi" and "Wait" are interesting as they're found in the same place with the same chance. Both music discs are found within buried Minecraft treasures, with just under a 20% chance. This often means these discs are among the first that a player will get, as shipwrecks and buried treasures are particularly amazing to loot in the early game.

9) 13 and Cat

Chance to drop: 16.1%

Similarly to "Mellohi" and "Wait," "13" and "Cat" have the same chance to appear as chest loot. They are also both found within ancient cities defended by Minecraft wardens. This means that while they're not rare, "13" and "Cat" discs can be quite dangerous to actually get.

8) Otherside

Chance to drop: 8.4%

"Otherside" is an interesting music disc due to being found in several different structures. Similarly to "13" and "Cat," this disc is found in dangerous ancient cities. These structures are actually where "Otherside" is most likely to appear, a useful bit of information for those looking to collect a full set of music discs.

7) Relic

Chance to drop: 8.3%

"Relic" is one of two music discs with unique acquisition methods. Instead of being a piece of chest loot in a structure, "Relic" is obtained by brushing the suspicious sand found in trail ruins as part of Minecraft's archeology system.

This does mean players will need to go out of their way to find this disc, however, as it won't simply pop up randomly while caving or mining.

6) Creator

Chance to drop: 7.5%

"Creator" is the first of three Minecraft 1.21 music discs found in trial chambers. This particular music disc can be obtained from ominous vaults, which can only be opened with ominous trial keys. This makes them harder to get than their relatively generous 7.5% drop rate might first indicate, as players will need to take on ominous events to even have a chance at the disc.

5) Pigstep

Chance to drop: 5.6%

"Pigstep" is the only music disc that players can find within the Nether. However, to do so, players must brave a dangerous and deadly Minecraft bastion. These structures are already great to loot due to being the only place to obtain netherite upgrades, but the "Pigstep" music disc is a nice extra bit of loot.

4) Precipice

Chance to drop: 4.2%

"Precipice" is the second trial chamber music disc. Unlike "Creator," this disc is obtained from regular Minecraft vaults. In a strange inversion, that makes it easier to get than the 4.2% drop chance might suggest. Players will still need to take on trial spawners to get the keys needed to open these vaults. However, it is still quite an involved and dangerous process.

3) Otherside (Monster Room)

Chance to drop: 3.1%

Another structure where players can find the "Otherside" music disc is monster rooms, the oldest structure in Minecraft, which used to be called dungeons. These structures are quite useful to hunt for, as the spawners found within them make for great early-game XP farms.

2) Otherside (Stronghold)

Chance to drop: 2.4% (Bedrock), 2.5% (Java)

The final, and rarest, place to find the "Otherside" music disc is Minecraft's dangerous strongholds. That said, Eyes of ender will point players straight to these important structures, making these discs easier to get than they might first appear. Java players technically have an easier time finding this disc, as the drop rate is 0.1% higher, but this difference is almost negligible.

1) Creator (Music Box)

Chance to drop: 1.4%

The rarest music disc by far, when it comes to percent chance to drop, is the "Creator (Music Box)" disc. However, they drop from breaking decorated pots within trial chambers, meaning, in reality, they're more common than the low percentage would imply. Breaking these pots is a good idea anyway, as there are new pot sherds and other loot to get as well.
