Well, Reforj by 4J Studios is right up their alley since it offers a Minecraft-like experience in a different package.

If you are not aware of the developers, 4J Studios was responsible for officially porting Minecraft to consoles and other handheld devices. 4J Studios recently released some artwork from their upcoming game on their social media handle. This left fans quite excited as it cemented the expectation of an official release. Moreover, in a recent interview, a developer revealed a lot of much-awaited information, including when you can expect to get early access to Reforj.

What makes Reforj special?

A lot of features in Reforj are directly inspired by Minecraft. This includes exploring an open world, gathering resources, building bases, etc. However, it also comes with some unique gameplay mechanics that make it special.

For starters, there is a sculpting tool that allows for more options while building. The developers have also created a specific engine for the game that allows better world generation, faster loading times, locked 60 fps gameplay, and advanced physical simulations.

As of now, the size of the world will be 4-kilometer square, and instead of finding an invisible wall like in Minecraft, you will loop around the world when you cross the boundary. At the same time, players will also have access to a customizable flat world option. Furthermore, you will be able to switch from first-person to third-person view just like in Minecraft.

The developer also claimed that the visuals are subject to changes. They are constantly working on improving every aspect of Reforj, and whatever has been revealed is at a very early stage. Moreover, the devs have adopted a feedback-first approach since fans can share their thoughts on the game’s official discord channel.

Release date, compatibility, and multiplayer options

Reforj will be available on all modern consoles, including the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S/X, and PC. The developer mentioned that a closed alpha version of Reforj will be available in early 2025. However, do note that these are the expected release window and can get delayed.

The Alpha version of the game will feature most of the basic features such as a Survival mode with hunger, enemy mobs, and resources. However, there will be a limit to most features, and the devs will add a Creative mode later on.

There will also be support for a peer-to-peer multiplayer mode, though there will be no server-side hosting from the developers at this point. Some minigames will also be added to the game, but these things will come later.
