The Minecraft movie is on the way, releasing in 2025, and while filming has wrapped, there is a lot of post-production work still left. Fans are yet to get an official look at the film, let alone a teaser or a trailer. However, a couple of images from it were somehow leaked online a few days ago before being promptly taken down.

One Reddit user by the name of Mater2_27 shared a leaked image showing Jack Black in the character of Steve, with his iconic blue T-shirt and dark blue pants. Black can be seen holding a stone pickaxe, the same he was seen holding when he made an appearance at the Minecraft 15th anniversary event.

Another user named xSluma said going the live-action route for a film based on Mojang's sandbox game is a bizarre decision. This is a common sentiment as most fans were expecting an animated movie.

Original poster Mater2_27 wondered why Jack Black didn’t shave his beard to look more like Steve. They also commented that the actor does not really look too much like the character in the leaked photo.

However, it is very likely that the image is one of the initial test photos that started before production or even filming. This may be why everything in the leaked photos looks unfinished. Hopefully, the final version of the mobs and characters will be more refined and true to the game.

Redditor WormOnCrack said they would have loved it if the Minecraft movie was an animated one and someone else who was completely new would have played the character of Steve.

Another user named Ascogyr-elda noted that Netflix is actually developing an animated show based on the title, so a live-action movie makes sense.

The upcoming Netflix Minecraft show might have just been overshadowed by the leaks concerning the Jack Black movie. Apart from an official announcement, we have no other updates on the series. It remains to be seen what storyline is and who the cast members are.

Meanwhile, the film will be an origin story, according to Black. It is scheduled to be released on April 4, 2025, and is directed by Jared Hess.
