Minecraft may be one of the most popular games of all time, but that doesn't mean every feature and function is universally beloved. On the contrary, many fans have been very vocal about their dislike of certain aspects of the game and wished they didn't exist or were carried out differently. Moreover, some parts of Mojang's sandbox title have regularly drawn ire dating back years.
Every Minecraft player has a different outlook on the parts of the game they dislike. However, it doesn't hurt to examine some of the most disliked features, according to the recurring distaste from the wider community.

5) Phantoms
Phantoms, one of the winners of MINECON Earth 2017's community vote, ended up being a better idea in theory than in practice. Many players complain that this mob's spawn behavior after a player hasn't slept for three in-game days is very inconvenient, as they can attack while fans are constructing builds. Plus, they have the ability to knock players off of high places.
While their membranes are useful, phantoms always seem to appear at the worst possible times, which is one of the major reasons why many fans would rather do without them.
4) Mojang's updated chat report
Mojang's updated EULA and overhaul of the chat reporting system rankled quite a few feathers. While Mojang implemented these chat reports with the hope of keeping fans, particularly younger ones, in a safe environment, some players have claimed that they've been falsely flagged by the system and banned. However, not all of these stories have had their validity confirmed.
Regardless, many fans believe that the moderators and admins of servers and realms should be able to handle their own community discipline. Mojang may have implemented the chat reporting overhaul to accommodate for the times when even mods and admins are abusing their station. However, that hasn't stopped fans from widely lamenting the current state of chat reports.
3) The villager trade rebalance
Not long ago, Mojang announced that it intended to implement a rebalancing for villager trades in Minecraft. While it remains an Experimental Feature at the moment, the changes of villager trade tables to be biome-specific (including swamp villages that don't generate naturally in the Overworld) have led many fans to push back against adding extra complications to using villagers.
The rebalance makes the process of trading for the right goods and resources a more difficult one. It also makes villager trading halls less helpful in general unless they're built in every available village biome. There's still time for Mojang to implement additional changes, but fans don't appreciate the state of the rebalance thus far.
2) The Minecraft Marketplace
Microtransactions are always controversial, and the same can be said for the Minecraft Marketplace on Bedrock Edition platforms. Not only are players not keen on purchasing content like add-ons, maps, and skins that they can usually download for free elsewhere, but the handling of content on the marketplace has also come under fire.
Specifically, many marketplace creators have been criticized for plagiarizing the work of other creators, many of which never intended their work to be released for Bedrock Edition. Since creators on the marketplace can make money from downloads, many fans see this as a theft of the hard work of other developers in the hopes of making a quick profit.
1) The Minecraft Mob Vote
While not necessarily an in-game feature, the yearly Mob Vote determines some of the new mobs that are introduced into the game. However, the Mob Vote has been immensely controversial, as many players have claimed that the vote is rigged in some fashion or that Mojang should introduce all three Mob Vote contestants instead of just the most popular one.
No matter how you slice it, the Mob Vote has been incredibly polarizing, and its return each year brings back the same criticisms and complaints from the community.
