There are few personalization options in Minecraft as iconic as capes. These items are disseminated for special occasions by Mojang, meaning rare capes are quite sought after. Unfortunately, there are very few capes with any kind of ownership number. Fortunately, most of these are quite easy to compare against each other to figure out which ones were claimed the most.
The seven most common capes in the game can be found detailed down below, along with exactly what factors make the capes as abundant as they are.
The top seven most common Minecraft capes
7) Vanilla cape

The vanilla cape is a fun bonus cape given to players who bought both Minecraft Java and Bedrock before they were bundled. Specifically, anyone who owned both versions of the game before June 6, 2022, would be given this cape as a token of gratitude for supporting the game. While the game was very popular by 2022, the fact that not every player bought both editions stops this cape from being more common.
6) Migrator cape
The migrator cape is interesting as it was one of the first widely available capes. It was given to players who migrated their Mojang or legacy accounts to Microsoft accounts after July 9, 2021. Due to how heavily both Microsoft and Mojang pushed account migration, this should be one of the most common capes out there.
5) Purple heart cape
The purple heart cape, also known as the Twitch cape, is the first of several capes introduced with Minecraft's 15th anniversary. It was available to players who watched a streamer play the game for 15 minutes. This made getting the cape totally free and easy to do, allowing hundreds of thousands of players to obtain it.
4) Follower's cape
The Follower's cape, also called the TikTok cape, is quite similar to the Twitch cape, as its name may suggest. This cape was given to those who redeemed a code that could be obtained from watching TikTok livestreams focused on the game. It was also totally free and easy to access. However, TikTok is a larger platform, meaning it's likely that there are more of these capes around.
3) 15th Anniversary cape
The 15th-anniversary cape, also known internally as the creepy cape, is the third of the recent celebration capes. Unlike the TikTok and Twitch capes, this accessory wasn't locked behind another platform. All players needed to do was hit a button on the game's official 15th-anniversary page. This makes it quite likely that this is the most common Minecraft anniversary cape.
2) Cherry blossom cape
This cape was handed to players who voted in the 2023 mob vote. This was the vote that resulted in Minecraft armadillos being added to the game. The official vote count for this event was roughly five million people, making this much more common than even the TikTok and Twitch capes.
1) The pan cape
The pan cape is one of the most interesting capes available to players and also by far the most common. It was originally a Mojang Studios capel, but a Minecraft glitch ended up allowing free access to it. After this, Mojang changed the texture, name, and icon of the cape to the pan cape. They also added it to the character creator inventory of all Bedrock players.
And that's exactly what makes it such a common cape. Since the game's versions are bundled now, any player who owns the game at all has access to Bedrock Edition. Essentially, everyone has access to this cape, making it the most common one by default. Outside of a new cape being added to Minecraft's character creator, this will also always be the most common cape.
