The importance of high-quality gear for surviving tough situations is well understood by every Minecraft player. After achieving diamond or Netherite tier equipment, the next best thing to do is enchant it to boost durability and other statistics. Enchanting has been a part of the game for a long time and has practically become a ritual that every player performs with high-tier equipment.

However, the list of enchantments is long, and choosing the right ones is important, as there is an upper limit to how many an item can be equipped with simultaneously.

This article discusses two simple yet irreplaceable enchantments that players should apply to every piece of equipment in Minecraft.

The list of Minecraft enchantments is tiresomely lengthy, and some aren't even worth going over. However, amid this extensive list, a couple of enchantments can significantly change how players use and repair their equipment.

Mending and Unbreaking are two enchantments every player should apply to all their equipment. These two are regarded as must-haves because they ensure an item lasts significantly longer. Durability is crucial in Minecraft, as an effective item that wears out before completing big projects is practically worse than something slower but lasts long enough.

Unbreaking has three levels that ensure items last much longer before their durability points are depleted. The difference this enchantment makes is substantial, as the highest level, Unbreaking III, increases the item's lifetime threefold.

The Mending enchantment functions differently to achieve a similar goal: extending the longevity of a Minecraft item. The Mending enchantment is highly popular and is hailed the best by the player base, as an item with Mending has its durability restored every time the player collects experience points.

Pairing a heavily used Mending item with an XP farm is a perfect combination, as it practically ensures the item will never run out of durability. This assurance is valuable, as higher-tier items made of Netherite are quite expensive and hard to obtain.

How to get Mending and Unbreaking Minecraft enchantments?

Although these two enchantments can be considered simple based on their functionality, obtaining Mending is not as straightforward.

Getting Unbreaking, on the other hand, is as simple as it gets: place an item to be enchanted on the enchanting table alongside a few lapis lazuli. If the table offers it, they can get Unbreaking.

Since Mending is a treasure enchantment, the easiest way to obtain it is by trading with a librarian. Getting a librarian to offer Mending may take a while, as players will have to repeatedly break and place its lectern until it offers a book with Mending.

However, the wait is worth it, as once the trades are locked, players essentially have an infinite supply of Mending books. Additionally, players can have multiple librarians offer enchantments needed in bulk, such as Unbreaking. Having a reliable source of enchantments makes enchanting multiple items easier and much quicker.
