Several unimplemented Minecraft features have been lost in the game's history despite Mojang's efforts to introduce new features regularly. While some items improve existing gameplay mechanics, others have the power to reimagine the way players interact in-game altogether. Many of these changes, items, or improvements could eventually make their way in-game.

That being said, here are the five unimplemented Minecraft features Mojang should add to the game in the future.

Shaders and other unimplemented Minecraft features that need to be added to the game in the future

1) Shaders

Shaders are perhaps the most important item on this list of unimplemented Minecraft features. These visual add-ons are one of the most popular customization aspects in the game, with thousands of available options to choose from.

Despite being partially implemented in 1.16 and 1.17, it was eventually scrapped. Some of the best Minecraft shaders can radically transform your vanilla world into endless universes, so it comes as no surprise that it is a much-awaited feature. Currently, the only way to implement these visual changes is through mods such as Iris Shaders and Optifine.

2) Fallen Trees

Fallen trees have been a much-requested feature in Minecraft, which was first teased by Mojang Studios Software Engineer Nathan 'Dinnerbone' Adams in 2012. These ground-based items could provide an additional layer of the struggle for players as they escape hostile mobs and be a great place to grow and obtain fungi.

The ground is usually barren, save for trees, plants, flowers, and other items. Falling tree could be one of the coolest unimplemented Minecraft features that can be added to make the gameplay experience more engaging. Additionally, these items could prove to be a great hurdle when escaping the nefarious creaking mob in the Pale Garden.

3) Fletching table upgrade

The fletching table in Minecraft is notoriously known as the most useless block in the game, serving no other purpose than just existing. Ahead of the 1.15 release, it was teased that the job block would receive player functionality, similar to the smithing table. However, the fletcher table remains without any use — just like the poisonous potato.

The fletcher table could be a great way to introduce additional hunting and gathering materials like traps, barbed arrows, and more — easily making it one of the coolest unimplemented Minecraft features. Additionally, the implementation of features could also expand the list of the fletcher mob's offerings and allow players to purchase a wider range of in-game items.

4) Seasons

The ability for the Minecraft world to have seasons is perhaps one of the most requested features in the game's history. This game mechanic would have the ability to offer different visual and technical changes to existing biomes based on the cycle — it could affect the color of leaves, growth of trees, birth of mobs, and more.

Despite being mentioned in Minecon 2013, the season's mechanic has not yet made its way to the game. Seasons could introduce massive gameplay changes to the existing conditions and offer more immersive playability, making it one of the coolest unimplemented Minecraft features.

5) Upgrading the Birch Forest

The Birch forest is one of the most popular biomes in Minecraft due to its unique visual design and the densely packed birch trees. In Minecraft Live 2021, it was stated that the Wild Update would introduce a host of features for biome diversity and focus on adding distinct identities to each biome.

The update was supposed to introduce features such as new flowers, shelf fungi, tree branches, as well as fallen logs. However, these much-awaited features did not end up being in the game, with Mojang stating that these were not something they wished to continue working with. The possibility of new items and visual upgrades could make this one of the much-needed unimplemented Minecraft features.
