Upcoming Minecraft update to nerf an already useless item in Java Edition

Minecraft will soon receive The Garden Awakens Drop update for both Java and Bedrock Edition. This update brings several great features, like Creaking mob, Pale Garden biome and various new blocks and items to try. Apart from that, the drop also comes with various changes to already existing features in the game. While some features are nerfed, others are buffed.

In the drop, one relatively useless item will receive a nerf in Java Edition. That item is the suspicious stew.

How suspicious stew will receive a nerf in Minecraft's upcoming The Garden Awakens Drop

Java Edition's suspicious stew effect duration changed to match Bedrock Edition

First, it is important to understand that suspicious stew gives players different status effects when consumed. The effect is loosely based on where the stew was obtained from or from which ingredients it was made.

Each of the status effects players receive from suspicious stew has a different duration, which also varies in different editions of the game.

In the upcoming The Garden Awakens Drop, the duration difference of a few status effects between Java and Bedrock Edition has been removed, bringing even more parity between both Minecraft's editions.

Here is a list of changes in duration that will come to Java Edition with the update:

• Fire Resistance: 3 seconds
• Blindness: 11 seconds
• Weakness: 7 seconds
• Regeneration: 7 seconds
• Jump Boost: 5 seconds
• Wither: 7 seconds
• Poison: 11 seconds

However, this is a major nerf to suspicious stew since most effects mentioned above currently have longer durations.

As of now, here is the list of status effects and their duration before the update:

• Fire Resistance: 4 seconds
• Blindness: 8 seconds
• Weakness: 9 seconds
• Regeneration: 8 seconds
• Jump Boost: 6 seconds
• Wither: 8 seconds
• Poison: 12 seconds

Why suspicious stew is considered a useless item

Whenever a player consumes a suspicious stew, they will be inflicted with a random position or negative status effect for a few seconds. Since players already have the aim to survive in the game for as long as possible, the suspicious stew adds a level of uncertainty, which is never welcome.

Though players can be curious to know which effect they get, it will not be beneficial due to its short duration. Furthermore, if players are in a dire situation, any negative effect applied by the food item will be even tougher to handle.

Hence, the suspicious stew can be considered a useless food item that is only consumed by players out of fun and not necessity.
