Despite Minecraft being in the gaming industry for 15 years and getting more and more popular each year, there are so many things about it that even veteran players are unaware of. It gets a lot of changes with each update, and it can naturally be difficult for players to keep a track of each tweak.

A Minecraft player and Reddit user by the name of u/Realistic-Tap4156 shared an interesting image on the game's subreddit. They showed the various textures of cobblestone over the years and asked the game’s community to pick their favorite. Interestingly, most players were surprised by the fact that the texture of cobblestone has changed so much over time.

Reacting to this image, another user by the name of u/Vulpes_macrotis commented:

A user by the name of u/Stringlxss agreed with the comment saying that even they were thinking the same thing. Another user by the name of u/sasson10 replied saying they thought there were only a few changes and not 12 different changes of the texture.

Another user, u/Daytona_Foxy, pointed out an interesting thing. They said that the changes in the texture seem like the cobblestone is slowly fading away.

As the image shows, the first texture was more detailed and had more contrast compared to the current texture, which looks blurred, faded, and washed out. Other players explained this ‘faded’ appearance of the cobblestone.

A user by the name of u/KobraTheKipod mentioned that the fading effect could be intentional as lower contrast makes the texture pop out less and hence blends the shapes well, making repeating textures less obvious.

Another user by the name of u/cyborgkat mentioned that lower contrast also makes it easier on the eyes. This is an interesting point as cobblestone is one of the most used blocks in the game and it shouldn't be difficult to look at.

Minecraft update slowly changes the game

The first version of Minecraft that fans could play on a browser is way different than the primary game today. With a series of updates over the years, it has changed bit by bit to the point that some things are totally unrecognizable.

The 1.21. Tricky Trials is the latest update the game has received. While it did bring some big changes such as the trial chambers, the bogged and breeze mobs, the vault and trial key, and many other things, it also brought some minor changes that are easy to overlook.

For example, the update changed the Nether portal to allow players to take a passenger with them; now it also allows minecarts to pass through without any issue. Perhaps, sometime later, players may be surprised to know that there was a time when the Nether portal was not always capable of doing these things.
