Minecraft has sold millions of copies worldwide, so the size of the community is understandably staggering. Both children and adults play the game with equal enthusiasm. This large playerbase necessitates the censoring of certain words and terms to prevent harassment during in-game communication. But sometimes, the censoring makes no sense and even hampers the gameplay experience for many.
Recently, a Minecraft player and Reddit user by the name of NickeySnipez shared a small video clip on the subreddit of the game showing something bizarre. The video shows the player using the anvil to rename their diamond sword. When the player tries to change the name to “Skibidi,” the game completely censors the word.
For those who do not know, the term “skibidi” is an internet meme that has originated from a video uploaded by Georgia-based YouTuber Alexey Gerasimov. The term is not derogatory in any way, and it makes no sense for Mojang Studios to censor it.

Reacting to this act of censorship, a user named the shopkeepR commented:
"Wait is Minecraft turning into Roblox or what?"
Another user named DeathWray asked what people mean when they say Minecraft is “turning into Roblox,” as they have never played the latter. User Salt_Investigator1 said that Roblox is a game that has strict censorship policies. It bans all possible terms and names that could be remotely considered problematic.
User lance_the_fata*s commented that while Skibidi is not even a good example, they do not like how Mojang Studios is censoring certain words. They also mentioned that censoring words makes sense in a public lobby, but it makes no sense in a private lobby where players are with their friends.
User ManPerson946 mentioned that this is even worse in the solo world where only one player is in the game. This is because nobody but the player writing the “controversial words” would see them. Perhaps, the developers use a blanket ban on these words irrespective of whether the game is private or public.
User Halseeeee asked the community why Mojang Studios banned this particular word. Another user named greenthegreen mentioned that the word “skibidi” does not even mean anything bad. In fact, the word does not mean anything in particular.
User Thelethargian asked an interesting question. They inquired whether the name "skibidi" would be changed for someone who had used it before the developers implemented the ban. Another user named teabolaisacool responded that it would probably just convert to tags.
Censorship in Minecraft
Since many kids play the game, censoring some words and terms, especially in public lobbies, is absolutely necessary to ensure that no one is harassed or exposed to a negative environment. Nobody has a problem with censorship in the game, but they do object to some of the ways it is implemented.
Recently, another user reported an instance of censorship that confused the community. Some fans feel that Mojang might be censoring all words that are even remotely problematic to be on the safe side.
