In Minecraft, many mobs roam in all three dimensions. Though some farm animals in the Overworld, like cows and sheep, are frequently seen eating grass naturally, players can also feed all kinds of mobs in order to either breed or tame them. Feeding mobs is a core mechanic of the game but some mobs cannot be tamed. However, their trust can be gained if fed the correct food item.
Here is a list of all the Minecraft mobs that can eat what players feed them.

How villagers technically eat food items in Minecraft
Out of all these mobs that eat something in the game, the most interesting are the villagers. These creatures are close to regular human beings as they have a set routine during the day and night. While they are not seen eating anything naturally, farmer villagers have the ability to plant and harvest crops, either for themselves or for players.

When players give villagers food items like bread, carrots, potatoes, or beetroots, they simply pick them up and become willing to mate and breed more villagers. Though these creatures have an invisible inventory of their own, it is safe to say that since they directly take food items, they eat them to increase their willingness.
