Minecraft has a ton of different mobs; some are passive, like the cats and cows, while others are hostile, such as the creeper or the zombie. Apart from these animals and enemies, there are villagers with whom you can trade emeralds and get different items based on their professions. But not all villagers are the same, as some refuse to take part in trading.
These unique villagers are called nitwits, and we will explain what makes them different from regular villagers in Minecraft.

Compared to the villagers who partake in different jobs such as farming, smithing, fletching, and trading with players, nitwits have no jobs. They wander around aimlessly with barely any task at hand. The only thing nitwits can be useful for is breeding and producing more villagers.
One of the characteristic aspects that make nitwits different from normal villagers in Minecraft is their sleep cycle. While regular villagers sleep at nightfall, nitwits sleep about a minute or two after them. The same is true for waking up as they wake up after the villagers have woken up and are at work.
The other difference between nitwits and the villagers in the game is their appearance. While a villager with an occupation has a distinct appearance based on their job, nitwits always have a green top. For example, the librarian wears a white robe and glasses, while the cleric has a distinct purple coat. But nitwits will always have the same green top.
Another important thing to note about nitwits is their survivability. Nitwits are more likely to be attacked by zombies and turn into zombie villagers. This is due to the difference in their sleep schedule. Nitwits sleep late, minutes after all the villagers with jobs have slept. This leaves them vulnerable at night when zombies and skeletons are active.
Nitwits in Minecraft also cannot gather around the bell as most villagers do, and they can never get a job. So what exactly is the use of these green-robed villagers who are good for nothing? Well, they have no use. As mentioned, you can use them to breed more villagers, but apart from that, they just sleep and wander around.
A baby villager has a 10% chance of becoming a nitwit. These nitwits were created by Jens Bergensten, famously known as “Jeb.”
