Minecraft Error 422 is one of the game's many different Creepypastas. For those unaware, Creepypasta's definition has shifted a lot over the years but is often used to refer to horror stories that originate from the internet rather than word of mouth or popular media. However, Error 422 stands out from other horror stories centered on Mojang's blocky masterpiece for a few reasons

Error 422 doesn't feature a ton of backstory, instead focusing on terrorizing players through a custom-modded version of the game. Everything players need to know about Error 422, from it's story to the major changes featured in its custom release, can be found detailed below.

Error 422 originates from the Russian version of the game's Creepypasta wiki and has been translated by a few members of the community. Needless to say, the translation isn't perfect, but this almost adds to the effect. The Creepypasta page almost feels like the ramblings of a player driven mad by this cursed version of the game, elevating the horror.

Speaking of the Creepypasta page, the link has been provided above. The major beats of the story are that Error 422 is a lost and cursed version of the game. According to the page, during its creation, the code became self-aware and became an entity known as "The Glitch" that haunts the game and all that dare to play it for themselves.

This version of the game features a ruined title screen, with the only option being to create a new Minecraft survival world. While everything seems normal at first, as time progresses, things start to get scarier and scarier as the game itself breaks down.

Speaking of the game breaking down, Error 422 features a ton of tweaks and changes that make the game experience horrifying. The health and hunger bars have glitched texture, making it impossible to know their values. Additionally, the air meter is missing, making it easy to accidentally drown.

Stack limits are also randomly changed each time the game is launched. The stack size can range from zero all the way up to 99. Getting zero as a stack size will cause strange, broken effects, like cloning tools with a durability of zero and being stuck forever picking up the same items.

That's just the start of the changes, however. Minecraft's debug screen is randomized and chopped up to the point of uselessness. Item names are also completely random. The time of day will change sporadically, and players will experience random blasts of knockback, as if they were struck by something.

Minecraft potion effects will be applied randomly. Creepers are able to explode instantly, making them much deadlier than they otherwise would be, and blocks can randomly produce water or lava when broken. Even placing blocks isn't safe, as they might randomly be replaced by other blocks.

These are mostly minor annoyances, but there are a number of changes that make the game actively harder for players. Lightning is capable of striking the player randomly at any time, while random fires can also break out in pretty much the same way. Water near players can randomly turn into lava, and beds can sometimes randomly explode, as if they were being used in Minecraft's Nether.

And if all that isn't bad enough, worlds are capable of automatically corrupting themselves beyond use. The inventory can also randomly vanish, meaning that worlds can essentially reset themselves at any time, even if they don't delete themselves.

And finally, the previously mentioned Glitch entity can be encountered in-game as a hostile Minecraft mob. It does one of two things when it appears. It can lock the player's controls, including the camera, while spamming chat messages. The game will then crash. The Glitch can also remove the player's ability to attack, change items, or use tools before attacking.

It deals huge damage, making it essentially guaranteed death, even with Minecraft god armor. However, if a player manages to kill it, they'll be rewarded with a large number of random items dropping onto the ground, including normally unobtainable ones, such as spawn eggs.
