Mojang Studios has decided to restructure its update delivery system. Instead of adding one major update every year, the developers will release smaller updates more frequently. The Winter Drop will be a part of this new update structure.

Mojang Studios revealed everything that will be included in the Winter Drop during the Minecraft Live event. Although the event was mostly for the upcoming Bundles of Bravery update, the Winter Drop features stole the show.

This drop includes a new hostile mob called the Creaking. It can only be found in the new biome called the Pale Garden. Since this is a new biome, the game will also get a new tree and wood type called the pale oak tree. Pale oak wood works exactly like every other wood type in construction.

However, it has one special quality. The pale oak wood can be used to activate the Creaking Heart. The Creaking Heart is a new item that is the source of the Creaking mob. The hostile mob does not take any damage when attacked directly as it is just a projection of the heart. To kill the mob, you will have to find the Creaking Heart and destroy it.

You can also break it using a tool with the Silk Touch enchantment. You can then place it between two similarly aligned pale oak woods. This will make the Creaking Heart glow orange. At nightfall, it will spawn in the Creaking.

Apart from these things, the Winter Drop also adds the Pale Hanging moss which can be used to make moss carpets, moss blocks, etc.

The developers have not announced the official release date for the Winter Drop. However, Mojang Studios has released the 24w40a snapshot adding all these experimental features to the game. In an official survey about the Minecraft Live event, the Winter Drop was also called the “Vanilla Holiday Update.” This does hint towards a release date around Christmas this year.

The Bundles of Bravery update added the long-awaited bundles to the game. It also added the Hardcore Mode to the Bedrock Edition. Hardcore Mode has been missing from the Bedrock Edition for more than a decade, and this update shows that Mojang Studios is working towards making both versions better.
