Why Minecraft beds should also help players heal

When players first enter a new world in Minecraft, one of the first blocks they craft is a bed. Beds allow them to sleep and skip the nighttime when most hostile mobs spawn on the surface of the Overworld due to low light levels. Apart from that, beds can be used to set a respawn point in the realm. When players die, they can respawn near their bed. Some players also use beds to blow up the Nether and the Ender Dragon.

Unlike other survival games, however, sleeping on beds in Minecraft does not replenish the health of a player. Hence, this mechanic could be added to the game to improve the healing mechanics and bed features.

Reasons why beds should heal players in Minecraft

Sleeping in the day can become a feature

As of now, players can only sleep on a bed in Minecraft when it is nighttime or during thunderstorms. Sleeping only skips the nighttime or thunderstorms to make the time and weather safer. While this basic feature works in most scenarios, players have no other way to lay their heads during the day.

If the game allows beds to replenish the health of a player, it could also allow them to sleep whenever they are low on health during the day. This can help players heal quickly and get back into the fight.

Sleeping during the day will not skip time but will simply heal players over time.

Save on food items for dangerous situations only

The only three ways to heal in Minecraft are by eating food items to keep the hunger bar full, using potions of health, or via regeneration status effects.

In normal circumstances, players often replenish their health bar by eating food and keeping the hunger bar full. While this has become standard practice, replenishing health by sleeping can massively save food items.

Players don't need to eat loads of food just to replenish their health; they can simply sleep on their beds for a while. This way, they can save food items for more dangerous situations, like when they're exploring caves, fighting hostile mobs, or entering Nether and End realms.

In some cases, potions of healing can also be saved by simply sleeping on the bed and regaining health.
