Massive community backlash against mob vote
When Mojang Studios first introduced the mob vote competition in 2017, many fans were excited to be a part of the development and choose which mob needs to be in the upcoming update. However, right from the beginning, those who voted for mobs that lost were sad to see them completely scrapped, never to see the light of day.
Since there was only one winner and several losers in the mob vote competition, the ratio of people who were disappointed was always slightly greater than those who were happy their mob won. Gradually, the community realized that the mob vote competitions hosted by Mojang Studios were bringing more discord amongst the fanbase. People were fighting against each other on the internet for their respective favorite mob.
Furthermore, many popular Minecraft content creators were trying to rig the voting system by using their massive following as well.

All these issues culminated in people creating petitions to scrap the mob vote competition altogether. In October 2023, when the mob vote took place between armadillo, crab, and penguin, a change.org petition reached more than 5,000,000 signs from players who agreed that the mob vote competition must be removed.
As mentioned above, the petition was so massive that it featured in the top 5 list of petitions in 2023 in the US.
How Minecraft Live will change after removing mob vote?
Minecraft Live is an annual event that Mojang Studios hosts to showcase their work for all their games and share information about upcoming updates. Previously, they usually conducted the mob vote competition a day before the actual event.
With the mob vote gone, Mojang Studios wrote that they would be bringing something new to the table. As of now, they have not expanded on what's new, but they have mentioned that the live event will be divided into two parts and will be more focused on showcasing new features in upcoming updates.
