Even after 15 years since Minecraft's release, Mojang continues to update the sandbox and add brand new official features. Hence, the game is still played by millions. In recent years, the developers have been focused on expanding the Overworld realm. However, various ocean biomes that cover most of the game's near-endless map appear neglected.
One could argue that Mojang should also focus on bringing new features to ocean biomes.

Here's why Minecraft ocean biomes should also be updated
The last major ocean biome update was in 2018
One of the main reasons Mojang could once again focus on bringing new features to oceans and larger water bodies is because last time, it received a major overhaul in 2018 with Update Aquatic. This update brought added mobs like dolphins, turtles, and drowned, and structures and items like shipwrecks, underwater ruins, tridents, scutes, and much more.
The Update Aquatic essentially added all the regular ocean features we know and love today. Although Mojang has continued to add a few features, like glow squids and axolotls, it hasn't paid much attention to bringing massive changes.
Ocean biomes could feel bland at times due to their outdated generation
As a lot of time has passed since ocean biomes have been updated, they might feel bland at times, particularly for experienced players who have already explored most of what they offer.
The overall underwater world generation remains the same, with only a few changes in recent updates, with deeper trenches. Structures and mobs that generate and spawn underwater remain the same and have similar textures and features from when they were added.
What new features can be added to ocean biomes?
Ocean biomes in Minecraft do have a lot of potential. Mojang could add new structures, mobs, blocks, and items to these, helping it become an interesting region to visit again.
A new weapon and armor system can be created around these water biomes, helping players fight newer and more unique hostile mobs.
New ores can be introduced by growing deep underwater, giving special resources to use for survival. The developers could even allow players to build underwater structures more easily and add new building blocks similar to prismarine.
