Minecraft has many hostile mobs that roam in all three dimensions and various biomes. While most of them are land or sky creatures, a handful of them particularly spawn and dwell underwater. Currently, there are only three underwater hostile mobs: drowned, guardians, or elder guardians. Drowned can spawn anywhere in a water body, while both types of guardians only spawn near ocean monuments.
While these creatures do have a special place in the sandbox, an argument can be made that more underwater hostile creatures should be added to Minecraft.

Reasons why Minecraft should get more underwater hostile mobs
Enhancing and updating the underwater challenge
It is safe to say that the challenges players face under the water feel dated. The regular breathing mechanic and the same old drowned and guardians might be interesting for new players, but seasoned players would consider them old. Hence, the Mojang title's underwater world needs fresh challenges and rewards to lure players to take a deep dive.
Those players who seek a more challenging adventure when exploring vast water bodies can be underwhelmed after seeing empty oceans most of the time. Apart from a few locations, drowned zombies do not spawn in water bodies, and guardians only spawn around ocean monuments.
Hence, Mojang Studios could add more varieties of hostile mobs that spawn in different ocean biomes. Natural creatures like whales, sharks, or fictional creatures like sea serpents, mermaids, and other sea monsters can be added.
New hostile mobs will also pose a greater threat and thrill players while they voyage through water bodies.
New items and weapons through underwater hostile mobs
As of now, the only water-related weapon present in Minecraft is the trident. This weapon cannot be crafted and is only found by killing drowned zombies.
With the addition of several new hostile mobs, Mojang Studios will have an opportunity to create newer weapons and armor sets that can be obtained from new creatures. Similar to turtle shells, the developers can create a brand-new set of armor and other weapons made up of trident-like materials.
Essentially, the Swedish game company can work on a smaller update which could be a sequel to their first aquatic update.
Balancing out the underwater with land
In the past few updates, Mojang Studios has extensively focused on adding loads of features to the Overworld. However, they have only focused on land-related features and left the underwater world alone.
Hence, the addition of new hostile underwater creatures can further enhance the ocean's experience and also balance out the number of features compared to land.
