#4. Ilima-Lei Macfarlane

The former Bellator MMA flyweight champion hit the nail on the head with her 2020 Halloween getup. With the help of her loyal canine friends, the Honolulu native put together a hometown-centric themed costume with a bit of pop culture flair.

Macfarlane herself is dressed up as a pineapple, a fruit largely connected to Hawaii after the Spanish introduced the halakahiki—meaning “foreign fruit”—to the natives in the 1500s. Since then, Hawaii has had a significant hand in the pineapple industry, which is why Americans and foreigners often associate the two together.

But the references don’t stop there, as Macfarlane’s two dogs are also in costume. Adorably, one is dressed up as ‘Lilo’ and the other as ‘Stitch,’ an ode to the hit cartoon movie from 2002.

The Macfarlane Halloween trio checks all the boxes: relevant, coordinated, and scary adorable. Macfarlane is a great MMA fighter, but she's also great at Halloween costumes too.

#3. Women's MMA icon Amanda Nunes and partner Nina Nunes

Amanda and Nina Nunes successfully and seamlessly combined costumes from two hit motion pictures. The MMA double-champ Amanda Nunes went all out, sporting a Jack Sparrow goatee, an eye patch, a matted hair wig, and the attire to match. She even came equipped with a scimitar, as if she needed to be any more intimidating.

Fellow MMA fighter Nina, meanwhile, followed a similar route, dressing up as one of Jack Sparrow’s crew members, draped in pirate-like attire from head to toe, also sporting a sword. She even has a feather in her Pirates Of The Caribbean hat.

What makes things interesting is the MMA duo’s son Raegan, who is subtly dressed up as a turtle. But not just any turtle - he’s dressed as ‘Crush,’ the 150-year-old sea turtle from Finding Nemo, who became a fan favorite through his laid-back, one-step-at-a-time attitude.

Overall, an excellent showing from the Nunes family. A beautiful mixture of two nautical movie series combined to make one great costumed trio.
