‘Mikinho’ first fought Johnson in April 2021. The American was the fan favorite, but Moraes silenced the doubters with a second-round knockout. Both fighters went their separate ways for one bout before meeting again in August 2022. ‘Mighty Mouse’ returned the favor and secured the ONE flyweight world championship with a perfectly-timed fourth-round knockout.
Adriano Moraes isn’t thinking about retirement
Despite being 34 years old, Adriano Moraes believes some people are starting to question when he plans to retire. The former eight-time ONE flyweight world champion has fought 24 times as a professional, with several thrilling wars under the ONE banner.
During an interview with SCMP MMA, Moraes had this to say about the future of his career:
"Everybody is getting old. I think of my age today, I’m 34. I think everybody is going to start to think, ‘What’s the next chapter in my life?’ I’m still feeling so young… Let’s focus on this fight and the next one. So let’s see, I think I have more things to do inside the ONE Circle."
After starting his career with a 9-0 record, Moraes made his ONE Championship debut in November 2013. The Brazilian lost his first fight against Yusup Saadulaev by split decision before bouncing back with four consecutive wins, including two world championship bouts.
Since then, Moraes has avenged two of his four losses against Kairat Akhmetov and Geje Eustaquio. Demetrious Johnson has been the only fighter to knock out the Brazilian, with his other three losses coming via split decision. ‘Mikinho’ now looks to further his legacy by winning the trilogy fight against Johnson at ONE Fight Night 10 on May 5th at 1stBank Center.
The event can be seen live and for free by North American Prime Video subscribers.
