His journey in wrestling began in the sixth grade, training alongside his brothers Silverio Esparza and Julian Perez. He represented West Hills College Lemoore in junior college wrestling, achieving the status of a regional champion and an All-American wrestler during his sophomore year.

After fighting all of his early professional MMA matches in the United States, he debuted on May 6, 2011, at TPF 9, securing a knockout victory in the first round against Jesus Castro. Before his appearance on Dana White’s Contender Series 5, Perez had accumulated a record of 16 wins and 4 losses.

Perez's UFC debut took place on December 9, 2017, at UFC Fight Night: Swanson vs. Ortega, where he faced Carlos John de Tomas, winning the fight via submission in the second round.
