Allycia Hellen Rodrigues emotionally charged before world title unification with Janet Todd

Allycia Hellen Rodrigues is ready to remind the world how good she is at ONE Fight Night 8 on Prime Video.

The ONE atomweight Muay Thai world champion will make her long-awaited return to the circle on March 24 for a title unification clash with Janet Todd. The two women will square off in the evening’s co-main event as they determine who is the undisputed queen of atomweight Muay Thai.

Ahead of their highly anticipated matchup, Rodrigues spoke with ONE Championship to discuss her emotional mindset and personal goals as she heads back to the circle for a new chapter in her combat sports career:

“It represents my whole story - getting to where I am now, fighting at one of the biggest events in the world, and showing that I'm the champion and that I'm back to stay. Fighting the best and being able to defend my title with all my strength is my dream.”

Allycia Hellen Rodrigues captured the ONE atomweight world title in a closely-contested matchup with fan-favorite Stamp Fairtex back in August 2019. Shortly after, Rodrigues revealed that she would be giving birth to her first child. Since then, she has been focusing on bonding with her new baby boy. Two and a half years later, Rodrigues is ready to return and reestablish herself as the top dog of atomweight Muay Thai.

During Allycia Hellen Rodrigues’ time away from the circle, a new champion has risen in Janet Tood. Capturing the ONE interim atomweight world championship with a dominant performance over Lara Fernandez at ONE 159. Since then, ‘JT’ has been sitting on the throne, but the two female warriors will determine who is truly the undisputed queen on March 24.

Sharing details on her preparations for their ONE Fight Night 8 showdown, Rodrigues said that she has been training hard for the contest and expects the pair to deliver a fan-friendly fight for those watching around the world:

“I've been training very well... I always prepare very well for every fight. Regardless of who the opponent is, I will always arrive 100 percent prepared. Because of our fighting styles, I'm sure we'll put on a great fight for the fans.”
