Bellator MMA is an American MMA organization based in California and is regarded as one of the largest promotions in the world of combat sports. The first ‘numbered’ Bellator event was held in 2009 and till date, there have been 232 numbered events.
Bellator initially started with eight-man tournament-based championships for different weight classes. The winners of the tournaments would go on to challenge the reigning champion in their respective divisions for the title. Dethroned champions had to re-enter the tournaments in order to try and reclaim their lost titles.
