At 45 years old, Brandon Vera wants to know if he still has what it takes to compete at an elite level. He’ll find out this Saturday, December 3rd as he makes his long-awaited return to the Circle. 18 months removed from his last appearance at ONE: Dangal, ’The Truth’ will test himself against Iranian monster Amir Aliakbari.

In an interview with The MMA Superfan, Vera discussed his bout with the Greco-Roman world champion this weekend, saying:

“That’s always dangerous when you’re that big of a heavyweight. I’m very much looking forward to this. This is it. Who better to find out right now than Aliakbari? Kid’s a monster. He wants it, he’s been asking for it.”

Though he is 1-2 under the ONE Championship banner, Aliakbari appeared to find his footing in his last appearance, knocking out Mauro Cerilli at ONE on Prime Video 1. While the Iranian looks to make it two victories in a row, Brandon Vera is trying to avoid three straight losses in what could very well be a do-or-die situation for the heavyweight icon.

Brandon Vera dreams of following a similar path as Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson

Whether or not Saturday is Brandon Vera’s final walk to the Circle, the former heavyweight world champion has big plans for his post-combat sports career. His inspiration is none other than the most electrifying man in sports entertainment, Dwayne Johnson, who is also known by the millions... And millions of fans around the world as The Rock.

Sharing his admiration for Johnson’s move from the world of professional wrestling to becoming a Hollywood icon, Vera said:

“He’s an inspiration for me to follow. He led the path on coming from the sports entertainment world straight into entertainment. He cut his teeth, he did cameos, he did extra roles, he did drivers. He was a driver in some movies. He did the extra parts, he cut hard. He worked at it, he perfected his craft, and he got into the industry.”

While he hasn’t made it to Hollywood yet, Brandon Vera has acting experience, appearing in Philippine action-thriller BuyBust and playing the role of an assassin in the Philippine primetime television show, Kamandag.
