While speaking with MMA Hoje, Marcus Almeida explained:

"The new champion is Russian right? So I think representing Brazil-United States there against the Russian [Anatoly Malykhin], it would be cool. So I believe he won't lose the belt until he fights me. I believe it will be against him."

'Buchecha' Marcus Almeida is undefeated in professional MMA having won all of his bouts via first-round stoppage.

'Sladkiy' Anatoly Malykhin currently holds the ONE light heavyweight world title in addition to his ONE interim heavyweight world championship. Later this year, the Russian fighter will have a long-awaited world title unification bout against heavyweight king Arjan Bhullar.

Bhullar and Malykhin are set to battle for the undisputed heavyweight throne at ONE Fight Night 8 on March 24. The event will be live and free for North American fans with an active Amazon Prime subscription.

'Buchecha' Marcus Almeida wants the heavyweight throne

After capturing dozens of world championships in submission grappling, 'Buchecha' Marcus Almeida switched his focus to MMA. Since then, he has impressed fans with four consecutive first-round victories.

Reflecting on his record, Almeida spoke to ONE and said:

"There were four wins in the first round. It shows that I’m feeling good, that I’m doing the right training, and that I’m adapting well to MMA. Of course, many people think that I’m not gaining experience because my victories were quick. But on the contrary, it proves that I am managing to put into practice all the training I have been doing.”

The heavyweight Brazilian submission specialist is planning to capture ONE gold in 2023. He added:

“All my focus is on MMA, and 2023 will be no different. I’m improving every day, and I want to get more victories. My ultimate goal is to become ONE heavyweight world champion, so I’m working really hard on that. I hope to achieve this goal in 2023."
