Marcus 'Buchecha' Almeida has stated that he will never fight ‘Reug Reug’ Oumar Kane.
The Brazilian and ‘Reug Reug’ seemed destined to fight each other due to their intriguing backgrounds before joining the ONE Championship heavyweight MMA division. When asked about seeing the Senegalese wrestler’s last fight, the jiu-jitsu legend had this to say:
“I watched Reug Reug fight against Batradz Gazzaev, and the Russian tried to use wrestling a lot. Reug Reug managed to defend the takedowns very well and got the TKO. It was a good fight.”
He was then asked if he would try to reschedule a fight with Reug Reug and responded candidly:

“No, I have no interest in fighting against him. We had three opportunities to fight, and the fight didn't happen. Every time that happens, it's bad for me, for him, and for the event, who needs to find a new opponent at the last minute. That even delayed the beginning of my MMA career a little bit. Because of that, I'm not interested. If it didn't happen, there's no reason for us to insist.”
Buchecha and Reug Reug were officially scheduled to fight twice. Once was in 2021 and the other in 2022, but both fights fell through. Although the matchup would be an easy sell to fans, the IBJJF Hall of Famer has no interest in trying again.
Marcus Buchecha doesn’t expect to fight again in 2022
Marcus Buchecha made his MMA debut in September 2021. Since then, the jiu-jitsu legend has won all four fights in the first round, including two in 2022. The BJJ black belt was asked if he would fight again in 2022:
“I think this year I shouldn't fight anymore. But there are big things to happen next year, big news in ONE Championship. This end of the year, I will take the opportunity to take a vacation and recover from some injuries.”
Buchecha’s transition to MMA has been nothing short of tremendous. The Brazilian’s last win over Kirill Grishenko showed he’s ready to compete against the best ONE heavyweights. It’ll be no surprise to see him fight for the title after a few more wins.
