When you talk about some of the most dominant champions in the heavyweight division, you talk about the likes of Fedor Emelianenko, but one other fighter who falls in that category is the former UFC Heavyweight champion, Cain Velasquez.
With excellent punching technique, amazing ground game and outstanding cardio, Cain has been at the helm of UFC’s heavyweight division for years, but that was until ‘Vai Cavalo’ Werdum dethroned the champ earlier this year to win the heavyweight title.
Cain was hard on himself after their previous encounter, and while his coach Javier Mendez took the responsibility for the loss, it has been evident that the former champion is hell bent on correcting his mistakes in the rematch. With UFC announcing their rematch sometime in 2016, Cain is now focusing on becoming the UFC Heavyweight champion once again.

Cain Velasquez was present during the UFC 193 Media Day in Melbourne, and I had the opportunity to catch up with the former champion to get his thoughts on the rematch, his previous fight and more.
About the old guard’s resurgence in the UFC
It’s good. It’s awesome, you know? The older guys making a comeback, why not? People were kind of counting them out before, but hey, they’re coming back and winning the fights, you know? It makes everything more interesting, I think it’s good for the sport.
About his last fight with Werdum
You know, in the last fight, Fabricio was better than me. I have no excuses, but I have a second chance for a rematch, and I’m going to take that opportunity and come back to win the fight.
About Werdum beating Hunt at his own game and stepping up in the past couple of fights
The guy’s very skilled. He’s no joke, and I’ve never taken him lightly, and I’m not going to do that for the next fight. But I’m going out there to win the next fight, and I’m going to get my belt back.
About the rematch possibly happening in Brazil
That’s fine. I’m going to go over to his home country and beat him there.
Message for his fans in India
I just want to thank them for their support, and, yeah, just thank them for everything.
