CM Punk didn’t have a great field day at UFC 203. While most had predicted the outcome, many were still hoping to see a decent fight. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen. The former WWE Champion got mauled by an unforgiving Mickey Gall. While we can try and find ways to look for positives out of this, there, frankly aren’t anything we can find out of this. He could only land one good strike.
While many are using this as an opportunity to laugh at the man, CM Punk deserves to be commended and respected for having ventured into this and giving it all. He entered the cage against a much younger, much more experienced fighter. That itself is something only a few would dare.
- CM Punk was the first to appear at the press conference. “Hellooo”, he quipped. Punk had a bandage on his right ear and a few bruises on his face. But it didn’t seem like he had lost his sense of humor yet. “Always a tough crowd”, he remarked.

- Punk said that the process was “Magical”. He went on to say that he was supremely disappointed with the outcome, but he is also being very hard on himself. Aside from the outcome Punk does not wish to change anything about it. He said, “The second best day of my life. First one was when I married my wife.”
- When asked if he wanted to soak in the moment before entering the cage, Punk said that he fully believed in himself and so did his coach and his team. “I thought I was gonna win”, he said. “I just try to enjoy life... Even the bad stuff. This is the bad stuff.”
- Punk got emotional while talking about how the result didn’t go his way and that he’s really hard on himself. “I lost. And it sucks. And it was lopsided. And it’s upsetting, but I know I’m better than them”, perhaps while referring to unfair criticisms.
- When asked about what he said to his wife and what she (AJ Lee) said to him, an emotional Punk laughed and told the combat sports media, “You guys are all gonna make me cry, you bastards!” He got choked up, took a moment and, ”She said she’s proud of me, you know..”
- Punk’s coaches and team also said that they’re proud of him, but he feels like he let them down.
- Punk would be forced to stay out of the gym for a while because of the stitches following the fight. But if it were up to him, he’d be back in the gym on Monday!
