With Demetrious Johnson and Adriano Moraes set to fight for the third time in two years, it’s clear that the two are evenly matched against one another.

In two tries, each man has found a way to knock the other one out and find their own areas of success. However, ONE Championship flyweight Danny Kingad believes there’s a key intangible that Johnson holds over the challenger Moraes, his mind.

A veteran of 29 fights, Demetrious Johnson has been fighting at a high level for years, competing in various promotions in North America. During his impressive career run, Johnson defended the UFC flyweight title a staggering 11 times, a testament to how well he performs under the brightest spotlight.

Kingad, who fights in Johnson’s weight class, recently spoke to media outlet The MMA Superfan, believing the American’s intelligence and longevity in MMA will give him an edge in the trilogy fight in May:

“Both DJ and Adriano are really amazing fighters. Both have their specialties, but I think DJ has the mental edge once the cage door closes. He’s always thinking of ways to get an edge during fights.”

With six rounds across two fights already in the books between the two, they’ve had plenty of time to fine-tune their strategy for the third fight.

A major factor in this third fight is that it takes place in the United States. Most would assume that location favors Demetrious Johnson, the American, but Adriano Moraes is a longtime resident of Florida’s American Top Team as well.

The event, ONE Fight Night 10, takes place on May 5th in Broomfield, Colorado, as the first event held by ONE Championship in the US.

Kingad believes Moraes has to finish Demetrious Johnson to beat him

Demetrious Johnson has proven that he’s one of the most resilient and consistent fighters in MMA.

In nearly 30 fights, he’s only been finished once. The only man to do it? Adriano Moraes. Danny Kingad, speaking to The MMA Superfan, agreed that the only way to beat Johnson is to make him tap or knock him out:

“DJ, I really can’t say anything about him. He’s the GOAT, really. He thinks so fast during fights. The only way to beat DJ is if you knock him out or submit him.”

From the time Demetrious Johnson began fighting as an amateur in 2006, the only men to beat him are Brad Pickett, Dominick Cruz, Henry Cejudo, and Adriano Moraes.

Moraes is no doubt studying both fights to find out what minuscule openings he can find in Demetrious Johnson’s defense. He was able to find it in their first fight with a knee against the cage, but felt Johnson’s revenge in the second with a flying knee.

On May 5th, we will see if ‘Mikinho’ has indeed found the answer to the puzzle that is ‘Mighty Mouse’.
