Diego Lopes is a professional mixed martial artist who competes in the UFC’s featherweight division. The Brazilian combat sports athlete Lopes was drawn toward Brazilian jiu-jitsu in his childhood. He started training in the discipline at a young age and started competing at 7. He became a recipient of a purple belt as soon as he turned 16 and currently, Lopes is a black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

Diego Lopes chose mixed martial arts to pursue his professional career. He made his debut in the combat sports discipline as a professional on September 8, 2012, at It’s Time Combat 1 against Francivaldo Arauvo. Lopes shut Arauvo’s lights off in the second round and secured a dominant TKO win to start his professional career.

After fighting in multiple fight promotions and compiling a professional mixed martial arts record of 21 wins and 5 losses, Diego Lopes made his professional debut in the UFC. He faced Movser Evloev in his first promotional bout at UFC 288 on May 6, 2023. He came up short in the fight and lost via a unanimous decision. Despite his loss, Lopes made a fitting return to winning ways by winning his next four fights in the promotion by submission, two knockouts, and a unanimous decision subsequently.
