The No.14 ranked featherweight contender in the Ultimate Fighting Championship, Diego Lopes is an exceptional fighter with an immense skill set. Even though he has the core of his fights on the ground, that does not stop him from knocking out his opponents while standing. The orthodox fighter made his professional mixed martial arts debut in 2012, and with more than a decade of expertise in the sport, he currently maintains a record of 24 wins and 6 losses in his career so far. The majority of his finishes are via submission(12), and knockout(10), and also holds 15 first-round finishes to his name, ornamenting his fight resume.

Diego Lopes made his promotional debut on short notice of five days against the undefeated Russian fighter Movsar Evloev at UFC 288 on May 6, 2023. The fight took place in New Jersey, United States, and Lopes was able to get through three rounds with Evloev. However, a dominant Evloev had a unanimous decision win over the Brazilian and both contenders won the ‘Fight of the Night’ bonus for their peak-level performance showcase.

However, Diego Lopes immediately bounced back from the loss in his next match against Gavin Tucker via a first-round armbar submission and is currently on a three-fight win streak. For his last outing, the Brazilian went up against Sodiq Yusuff at UFC 300 on April 13, 2024, in Las Vegas, United States. And Lopes stopped Yusuff within just 1 minute and 29 seconds into the first round via TKO. This particular fight earned him a lot of respect and appreciation and as a result, Lopes is set to go up against the No.3 ranked Brian Ortega in the co-main event at UFC 303: Pereira vs. Prochazka 2. Moreover, as Ortega could not make his weight in the featherweight bout, the fight will now be taking place as a lightweight event.
