American MMA fighter Nathan Donald Diaz was born on 16th April 1985, in Stockton, California. Diaz was born to Melissa (née Womble) and Robert Diaz, and he grew up in Stockton, California, alongside his brother Nick and sister Nina. His ethnic background comprises Mexican and Anglo heritage. He attended Tokay High School in Stockton. From the young age of 11, Nate started his martial arts journey, training alongside his brother Nick.

Before transitioning to MMA, Nate Diaz engaged in a bare-knuckle MMA fight at just 17 years old, facing Robert Limon on July 20, 2002. This fight is believed to be his first competitive experience, and recently, footage of the bout has surfaced.

On October 21, 2004, Nate Diaz, 19, competed in his first professional MMA match against Alejandro Garcia.

When Diaz began his professional MMA journey, he primarily competed for World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC). In 2006, at WEC 24, he had the fight for the WEC Lightweight Championship against the then-champion Hermes França. Unfortunately, Diaz lost by submission in the second round. It's interesting to note that this event was the last one held by WEC before it was acquired by Zuffa, LLC, which was the parent company of the UFC at that time.

Moreover, after retiring from MMA, Nate Diaz stepped into the world of professional boxing. After losing to Jake Paul in his debut, Diaz is set to return inside the ring on July 5, 2024, against Jorge Masvidal.
