Eddie Alvarez says a trilogy against Michael Chandler is unlikely
Eddie Alvarez and Michael Chandler fought twice in Bellator and were two fighters that were synonymous with the promotion.
Their first encounter took place at Bellator 58 in 2011 and is arguably the greatest fight in the promotion's history. Chandler pulled off the upset by submitting 'The Underground King' via rear-naked choke to win the lightweight championship. Two-years later at Bellator 106, Alvarez avenged his loss by earning a split decision and regained the lightweight championship.
During his appearance on The MMA Hour, the former UFC lightweight champion mentioned that he tried to set up a trilogy with Chandler, but it wasn't meant to be. He revealed that he attempted to make the fight happen on numerous occasions and believes 'Iron' doesn't want to fight him again, saying:
"I tried to make that fight happen not once, not twice, but three times and it’s just not going to happen. That guy, he does not want to fight me and the fight just never got made, so it's not on me.”
It remains to be seen whether the UFC will circle back and see if there's interest in a trilogy fight between the former Bellator lightweight champions.
