What’s the story?

The UFC 218 main card event Between Max Holloway and Frankie Edgar has been called off as Edgar has suffered a facial injury that'll require surgery.

In case you didn’t know…

Holloway who seems invincible after his 11 win streak in a weight class that includes some of the best fighters in the world. Edgar has won his last seven out of eight fights and he seemed confident enough to take back the title. Both men were going for glory at 218 and it seems fight fans all around the world would have to wait for some time more to find who the better man is?

The heart of the matter

Edgar released a statement via his Instagram post calling it a mild setback and that he'll be back to training within six weeks. Holloway was making his first title defence against Edgar at Little Caesar’s Arena in Detroit on December 2. Holloway was crowned champ after he defeated Jose Aldo in the main event at UFC 212 held in Brazil.

What’s next?

The champion has his hopes high for the main card fight. Since the news of Edgar's pullout came out, previous champion Aldo from his twitter handle has demanded a rematch. It remains to be seen who'll face Holloway for the featherweight title.

Author's take

UFC fans all over the world would be heartbroken to miss what was destined to be an epic match. After all the fireworks at UFC217, fans expected another great bout between the two. Both Holloway and Edgar were going for glory at 218 and we'll have to watch who Dana white will pick up for the main card fight. Who is it going to be? Only time will tell.
