The Ultimate Fighting Championship is hosting its next pay-per-view event, the UFC 299, from Kaseya Center in Miami, Florida, USA, on March 9, 2024. The star-studded pay-per-view event will be headlined by Sean O’Malley and Marlon Vera in a bantamweight title showdown. The fight card is full of exciting fights from different weight classes that also include a welterweight showdown between Gilbert Burns and Jack Della Maddalena on the main card of the event.

Gilbert Burns is one of the leading professional mixed martial artists currently active in the UFC’s welterweight division. Among the top contenders of his division, Burns has an impressive fight record and has already headlined one pay-per-view event alongside the former welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman at UFC 258.

Gilbert Burns started as a grappler and eventually shifted to mixed martial arts later. He made his professional mixed martial arts debut on January 28, 2012, against Jose Salgado at Crown Fighting Championship 5. Burns showed his dominance in the bout and quickly dispatched Salgado to win the fight via first-round submission. He compiled an impressive professional record of 10 wins and 0 losses at the time of making his way into the elite professional mixed martial arts promotion, the UFC.

His rival for UFC 299, Jack Della Maddalena is a bright fighter who has been active on the professional circuit since 2016. He made his professional debut in mixed martial arts on March 12, 2016, at Eternal MMA 15 against Adin Bates. He lost the inaugural match of his professional career via a third-round TKO. Della Maddalena found his footing after a couple of bouts and amassed a 10-fight winning streak before appearing in Dana White’s Contender Series against Ange Loosa whom he defeated by a unanimous decision.

Gilbert Burns and Jack Della Maddalena will try their best to outclass each other and progress further in the division. Burns is currently ranked No. 4 whereas Della Maddalena sits at the 11th spot of the UFC’s welterweight rankings as of March 2024.
