Gunnar Nelson, Conor McGregor's longtime teammate, will be making his return to the UFC this weekend, one day shy of a year since his last fight in the octagon. Nelson defeated Takashi Sato via UD on March 19, 2022 and will now face Bryan Barberena in a feature bout on the main card of UFC 286 this weekend.

McGregor, who has trained alongside Nelson since 2008 at SBG Ireland under John Kavanagh, recently revealed he may be in attendance for this weekend's pay-per-view card.

'The Notorious' appeared on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani on Wednesday and said the following about Gunnar Nelson:

"I may be present for [UFC 286] yeah. We're making moves with the Black Forged [Inn] in London and I was scheduled to go out there so, and [Gunnar Nelson] is also on the card so it'd be good to see him [fight] live."

Gunnar Nelson is 2-2 in his last four and will be eager to continue his winning ways against a surging Bryan Barbarena. 'Bam Bam' is known for his marauding style, and has been awarded a Fight of the Night bonus in three of his last five fights.

Fans should expect an exciting welterweight clash between Nelson and Barbarena when the octagon door closes at UFC 286.

Gunnar Nelson predicts outcome of Conor McGregor vs. Michael Chandler

Conor McGregor is set to make his highly-anticipated return to the UFC against Michael Chandler later this year. The pair are the respective coaches for the 31st season of The Ultimate Fighter, which is currently being filmed in Las Vegas.

Following the season finale of TUF 31, the two lightweight stars are scheduled to do battle.

'The Notorious' last competed in July 2021 against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 where he broke his leg. The 34-year-old completed the rehabilitation process several months ago and is back in full training ahead of his clash with Chandler.

Gunnar Nelson, a longtime teammate of Conor McGregor, recently appeared in front of the media ahead of his fight with Bryan Barbarena at UFC 286 this weekend.

On being asked to share his thoughts on the outcome of McGregor vs. Chandler, Nelson said:

"Yeah it's an interesting one. If Conor trains properly and is in shape, he'll kick the s**t out of [Michael Chandler]."
