A UFC legend once shared that he was forced to expel Sean Strickland from his gym, even though he was an invaluable training partner. The former UFC middleweight champion is not only known for his unorthodox fighting style but has also earned a reputation for his knack for ruffling feathers and upsetting people.
In recent years, Strickland has gained attention for his blunt and unapologetic demeanor, often making polarizing remarks in interviews and on social media. While these comments have undoubtedly contributed to his growing fanbase, they have also provoked intense backlash.
During an appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience in October 2023, former UFC 185-pound title challenger Dan Henderson revealed that he had to part ways with Strickland from Team Quest due to the tension caused by the Californian's constant trash-talking with other teammates:
"He was at my gym for, like, three years. We kind of had to let him go. He just kind of gets too involved in talking sh*t about people. I liked him in the gym, I liked him there, he was a great training partner. You need at least one guy in your gym that does that and goes hard and makes everybody else go hard when they’re going against him, so I liked it."

'Hendo' further added that despite having some lingering issues with Strickland, he continued to support him and cheer for his success, even after he parted ways with the training facility:
"He just was too disrespectful to teammates and stuff. [But] I always rooted for him when he left. I thought he had a ton of potential... His natural ability is his cardio. He knows how to fight well, too, but naturally, he just has cardio for days."

Sean Strickland set to challenge middleweight champ Dricus du Plessis at UFC 312
Sean Strickland claimed the middleweight title with a dominant unanimous decision victory over longtime champion Israel Adesanya at UFC 293 in September 2023.
However, his reign was short-lived as he faced Dricus du Plessis in a title defense at UFC 297 in January. Strickland was unable to retain his championship and suffered a split decision loss.
Strickland is poised to challenge du Plessis for the 185-pound title in a highly anticipated rematch at UFC 312, scheduled for Feb. 9 at the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia.
