As a teenager, UFC commentator Joe Rogan was an elite taekwondo athlete. According to blackbeltmag.com, the 55-year-old even won the US open taekwondo tournament when he was 19 years old.

Speaking to Dave Chappelle on #1647 of the The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, the color commentator explained how he never mentally recovered from a knockout blow he landed on one of his opponents during a tournament. Rogan stated that he once landed a heel kick during a taekwondo fight and his opponent had to be carried out on a stretcher:

"I was always trying to knock someone unconscious... There was one time that I never recovered from. I knew this dude was a bit slow and he was doing some things, I was seeing some openings and I hit him harder than I hit anybody in my life. I hit him with a wheel kick... I hit him hard I was limping for a couple of days afterwards because my heel hurt and I flat lined him. He face planted, he started snoring and he never got out. They carried him off the stretcher. It scared the s**t out of me."

When Joe Rogan told Mike Tyson why he stopped fighting

During episode #1227 of JRE, Joe Rogan told Mike Tyson why he decided to stop actively competing as a fighter. The UFC commentator revealed that he realized there was no future for him in fighting once he switched from taekwondo to kickboxing.

Rogan shared that he used to get constant headaches from hard sparring sessions once he made the switch. The commentator added that it was hard for him to maintain distance in kickboxing as his boxing was not well-refined:

"I went from taekwondo to kickboxing and when I started kickboxing I started getting f***ed up. Dudes were beating the s**t out of me because I was realizing I can't keep people at the same distance anymore because I didn't know how to use my hands properly... and then I realized there is no future in this, what am I doing? I'm just getting my brains beat in... So a lot of headaches, you know... but when I did stop fighting it was a huge relief."
