Alex ‘Poatan’ Pereira is a 36-year-old professional fighter from Brazil who is currently the light heavyweight champion of UFC. He is a former UFC middleweight champion, and upon losing his title to Israel Adesanya at UFC 287, Pereira moved up a weight class to light heavyweight and faced the former champion Jan Blachowicz on July 29, 2023, at UFC 291. He won the bout via a split decision and, faced Jiri Prochazka for the UFC light heavyweight title at UFC 295 on November 11, 2023.

For his last outing, Pereira knocked down Jamahal Hill in the first round and defended his title.
Starting his combat sports career as a kickboxer in 2013, he completely transitioned into mixed martial arts in 2015. Even though the former champion lost in his MMA debut with a record of 2 wins and 1 loss, he made his octagon debut against Andreas Michailidis at UFC 268 and won the bout via a flying knee TKO in the second round.
