Dricus du Plessis is one of the leading competitors in the middleweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He is the current middleweight champion of the UFC. He won the title by beating Sean Strickland via split decision at UFC 297 on January 23, 2024. Du Plessis has enjoyed clinical success ever since joining a leading professional mixed martial arts promotion. After going 3-0 in 2015, Du Plessis competed for the vacant EFC Welterweight Championship at EFC 50 against seasoned fighter Martin Van Staden. In the third round, Du Plessis was submitted by guillotine choke.

Later, Du Plessis was scheduled to defend his title against Henry Fadipe, one of its former holders. When Fadipe, however, had problems with his visa, the fight was called off.

Du Plessis rejoined the EFC in 2017, defeating Mauricio Da Rocha Jr. of Brazil in a Welterweight match before taking on Yannick Bahati for the Middleweight Championship at EFC Africa 62. Du Plessis prevailed via guillotine choke at 1:30 in the first round to win the promotion's two-weight championship.
