Nathan Donald Diaz, born on April 16, 1985, is a renowned American mixed martial artist presently without a contract. On “The Ultimate Fighter 5,” which featured only lightweight fighters, Diaz competed for Jens Pulver's team. Rob Emerson was defeated by submission in the first round, and in the quarterfinals, Diaz defeated Corey Hill of Team Pulver by triangle choke submission.

In the semifinals, Diaz submitted Gray Maynard of Team Penn to advance to the finals, where he faced Manvel Gamburyan of the same team. Gamburyan was forced to submit in the second round after dislocating his right shoulder while attempting a takedown, and Diaz ended up winning by submission. Diaz won “The Ultimate Fighter 5” with his victory.
